The other day, I found quite a good deal on Tannoy Reveals. I'd heard a pair in a friend's prepro room and thought they might be good for tracking at home. Unfortunately, the speakers I've used for years have been a hoary pair of NS10Ms, and while they sound harsher and more sterile than the Tannoys, what they offer is a lot of information in the highs. I'm primarily a keyboardist/programmer/arranger who gets hired to decode the parts of arrangements that sit at the very top of the track -- strings, bells, high synths, things like that. The NS10Ms impart far more information in terms of highs than the Reveals, hence the Tannoys should be going classified rather soon.

It looks as if I'll be replacing the Tannoys and Yamahas with pair of B&W 602S3 or possibly the new near-Nautilus 705. I've seen the 602 in a few studios before (though not in NYC, where I live). Does anyone have other recommendations for speakers for the kind of work I do? If not, does anyone know why the Tannoy Reveals sounded so dark and unrevealing? Thanks in advance.
