i just upgraded my g3 with a new 533 mhz processor and OS x. i installed a usb card but my problem is that i have MOTUs midi express which has a serial port. will i be able to plug into OS X and DP 4 via the serial port? do i have to buy a new interface? what about iMate?

You need one of these
This replaces your internal modem port with a serial port. See Compatibility List |

Sorry, I misread your post (read it a little too fast). I thought you had upgraded to a G4/533.
If you have just placed a faster 533MHz processor in your computer then your serial ports should still work. Have you actually tried connecting the MOTU MIDI express to the serial port that already exists on your G3? Ce message a été modifié par formatj - mer. 10 mars 2004, 01:29. |

The question really isn't whether DP4 will work but rather will any MIDI software recognise the MIDI express.
You need to have a core MIDI driver for OS X. If "Audio MIDI setup" (in Applications>Utilities) can see your interface then it should work with any MIDI application on OS X. Try downloading http://www.motu.com/downloads/MTPMac/usbx_1.22.hqx and see if Mac OS X can recognise the interface. This is the only driver for OS X that MOTU has on their website that I can see. http://www.motu.com/english/download/index.html |
