hi, i have a mac set up with an Edirol midi keyboard and Cubase. when i try to record stuff with the midi keyboard, i see the green and red bars that show it has been recorded, but no sound comes out. ive done regular audio recordings, and that worked, so im really confused why theres no sound coming out even though i see that the midi has entered my computer. thank you for any help you can give!

I'm assuming that you know midi is not an audio file. If your keyboard had speakers, and you play the midi file, you should be able to hear your keyboard making the sound. You will have to record the audio comming out of the keyboard as audio, while the midi file is playing. Or you need to select the midi port of what ever midi controllable device it is you wish to record, and record the sounds the device makes in audio.

Just to add, I was having a similar problem in logic. What I did not realize is that I never selected a virtual instrumant. So yes logic was getting my midi infomation, but it did not know what sounds to use to generate the music. Hope that helps.

i think i set up virtual instruments, but theres still no sound. i tried hooking up my headphones to every jack i could find (the imac headphone jack, the speaker jack and the headphone jack on my MAudio Duo thats also hooked up to the comp through USB), but nothing was coming out even though the green output bars were moving when i pressed play.. i looked in the cubase manual about virtual instruments, and i think i did what it said so i dont know why its still not working.

Which instrument do you have selected to play the midi file? If all else failes try quicktime instruments... Also make shure in you audio setting that you have selected "play sound through."
