Turbo synth used to be supported by the sample cell hardware card that is now out of production.

It has been replaced with the software only Sample Cell.

A search of Digi's site only give results from'96-'97, and at that time there were incompatibilities with PPC.

So that's a good question but it appears to be out of production, also its' TDM only

Hello gdoubleyou, thanks for the info, I sort of thoght it was exclusive TDMstuff too, untill I found a copy of it on Hotline and tried it out on my Mac, which is rather old (a Power PPC 8500/180, upgraded to G3 500 thru Sonnet upgrades) and had no problems opening Turbosynth (2.21x3) and messing around in it... It´s a stand alone program this one, so maybe it´s a special version or something. I checked and it was written in 1995. I guess what I am really looking for is a manual for Turbosynth, and also if people know of soft synths or programs that operate similarily... I think someone mentioned Cellsynth at some point...

Anyway, thanks a lot.

/Håvard

I have used Turbosynth for more than 10 years with a Physics of Sound class. It will run on a Power PC or earlier with the internal sound manager. Contact me off line if you want to discuss the operation. Unfortunately Digidesign no longer supports this program. If anyone knows of a similar program that is currently available please post.

Why would anyone want to use TURBOSYNTH?! blink.gif

It's bloody ancient! huh.gif

Reason has been around a while. It's quite an interesting program. Comes highly recommended to those creative types who have just arrived in a time machine from 1995.

smielyw:

I tried to mail you off line, but received no reply, so perhaps you didn´t get it.

Anyway, I´m very interested in getting info about Turbosynth, how to use it, etc... Been looking for a manual, but can´t find one anywhere.

i have a turbosynth manual!
it's yours if you want to sort out the post costs. wink.gif
there are a couple of free applications around that do the same thing as turbosynth.
syd from jim bumgardner(i kid you not!) is probably the best.
super collider, out of phase, cellsynth, isynth, and of course the incredible reaktor, although this one is pretty expensive... rolleyes.gif

i used to use Turbosynth and i loved it: especially the ability to convert a sample to an oscillator.
FYI there was 2 version of Turbosynth: one stand-alone and one Scell driven.
Nowadays, Reactor (Native Instruments) seems to be a really cool competitor, beacause it's really more powerfull and it works in realtime!!!!

oh man... please tell me you are joking.

Turbosynth is a fantastic sound design device. It can make sounds literally NO OTHER program can make- and that includes Reaktor and Max MSP.

Reason? Um... Reason sucks. It's for 14 year olds. There is extreme limited i.e. next to NO sound design features in reason.

So a program is ONLY good if it's cuurent? Idiotic statements like that show why you are using Reason I guess.

next time think before spouting your ill informed opinion out.

I still use Turbosynth on my iceBook. Runs just fine on 9.2.2, but not in Classic on osX...

Great program - wish Digi had never dumped it (or SoundDesigner II)
