Is this possible?

I'm using Logic 8 and I want to have some of the tracks coming out of the main monitor output and then the guitar track coming out of the headphone out so I can plug it into an amp...

Can it be done?!

yes, certainly. but it depends completely on your audio interface. are you using one? are you using the native audio output? that's the crucial piece of info.

i dont' know that hardware. with my 828 i've got the option of several outputs from my main sequencing window.

it's also possible that the headphone output has some choices in the mbox's driver... it could mirror the outputs, or be a separate out.

anyone got direct experience?

Looking over the specs on the digi web page and giving a glance at the MBox 2 manual, it looks like the only option to do what you are trying to accomplish would be to split your main out signal to one output (Channel 1 for example) and use the other channel for your reamping of your guitar track. The headphones mirror what is coming out of the Main Outs 1&2.

To truly accomplish what you are wanting to do you'd need an interface with more than the main outs, i.e., the Apogee series, MOTU 828 series, Presonus Firebox series, etc..

Wish I had better news for you.

peace.

Ah that's a bugger.

I see what you mean about splitting the L/R outputs but if it's going to come out of the headphone socket anyway it's not much use.. and I don't really want the other output being mono!

Never mind - it's worth asking before I shell out on something else!

Hey, it might not be ideal but, give it a try anyway...it's just a small part of a big project and really, you are just aiming to get a good signal out of the amp (or whatever other pedals you have in mind) and back into the computer....think about the fact that it wasn't real long ago that records were totally made in mono and even by the late 60s/early 70s stereo was kind of an archaic thing. I am sort of in the same boat as I want to do some re-amping with my Apogee Duet. I really don't want to do any kind of additional hardware purchase as I am pretty much stuck on Apogee now and the Ensemble is something like, 2 grand. I live with what I got for a while.
