Hi guys

I've tried everything:

I just can't get the factory settings and sounds back into my Korg M1. This is what i've done so far:

I bought a socalled MIDI MATE cable which connects my laptop with the keyboard (USB-MIDI)
I downloaded the m1preld.syx file from the internet.
I d/l'ed several transfer programs.
Cable is connected with MIDI out to MIDI in - and visa versa.
I set the Global MIDI channel to 1 on the keyboard
I used the programs one by one to send the file, but the keyboard do not respond with the right sounds.
I am able to transfer *.m1p files, keyboard shows the sound names, but there's no sound out of the keyboard.

What happens:
Mostly nothing.
After some tries with the sysex transfer, the keyboard shows some sound names with absolutely no meaning, and theres no sound out of the keyboard whatsoever.

Anything that might help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

If you dont connect the M1 to some audio chain (headphones, audio interface…) of some sort you won't hear a thing. (Sorry if you know the difference over MIDI and audio but it's a common mistake and your question didn't lift the ambiguity)

Which software have you used for Sysex?

The only software I trust for sysex on a windows PC is MIDI-OX

Once the M1 is correctly connected (MIDI in into out both ways), the MIDI channel is set correctly where appropriate (sorry, I'm a mac user, and the last time I've done this on a PC is years ago… Someone else may help), you should be able with MIDI-OX to transfer the sysex file easily.

If you have the M1 manual, you should have the proper set up on the M1 side explained.

Note that if your MIDI interface sends a MIDI clock you can't stop, the sysex won't work (like the MIDI ports on creamware products)

Sorry not to be of more help than this, but there's too many things I don't know/remember to help you in full. I've only had to do this once, years ago on a PC and for a Machinedrum… unsure.gif
