Apologies if this topic has been dealt with previously, but...
I've just begun using my ibook to transfer LPs to CD and am disappointed with the sound quality. Clean, clear mid-range and treble, but no bottom end at all. I'm using a Griffin imic and creating the AIFF files with consumer grade software called CD Spin Doctor, burning the CD's with Toast. The stereo is connected to the imic using the adapter cable that came with my copy of Toast. I don't think there's a problem w/ the audio source - I'm confident in the turntable and amp. So I'm trying to figure out what I'm up against. Would buying higher-quality adapter cables make a noticeable difference? Is the imic itself a limitation on sound quality? If so, can I upgrade without spending $$$. Any software or hardware tweaks that might improve things? Sorry to be long-winded. I'd really appreciate any help! |

for transferring vinyl to the mac you'll need a line input, forget about mics.
especially cheap ones!  you seem to be suggesting that imic has a line facility, i don't get it.  please supply some more info... good luck. -------------------- one for all and all for one...

Sorry - yes the imic includes a line-in capability, which is what I'm using. Requires stepping down from RCA jacks at the back of the stereo to a 1/8 inch plug into the imic.
This isn't a very technically grounded question, but I wonder if cramming all of the stereo signal into such a small conduit winds up squeezing out some of the original sound... |

this problem shouldn't exist!
if you were coming out of the headphone output of the amp you could expect fairly lo-fi results, if you were using an extension cable that was mono you could expect cr*p results, if the turntable was not being amplified by a phono circuit of an amp you could expect p*$s poor results. maybe the imic is really cr@p, but i doubt it.  even more info please... -------------------- one for all and all for one...
