 Emac Vs Athlon |

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and mac world in general. For various reasons I'm about to change my Athlon 1700+ to eMac 1.25 with 1 GB of ram memory. Since I'm making music on Logic (stucked on 5.5) I was wondering how it works on eMac ? How he manages ? I know that it is not a pro computer but I don't really need lightspeed machine. Even my Athlon seems to be more then enough for me. I use Logic mainly for MIDI, audio tracks and effects. I still have lots of hardware and except Kontakt and Battery don't use vst instruments. OK, so to sort it out, can anyone write me if eMac would be good for this tasks ? How can I compare it to my Athlon ? THX for help ! -------------------- aND tHAT'S WhAT i uSE : eMac G4, Logic Express 7, NI Kontakt, freeware AU plugins, MD, some rusty analog synths and small acoustic instruments.

I work in a lab that has a bunch of 1.25 GHz G4 eMacs with 768 MB of RAM. They are pretty good for music. Never used logic on them, but people use pro tools on them all the time and they are quite sufficient for the stuff most electronic music students do on them. Nice and snappy. I have a 1.25 GHz G4 powerbook myself with 512 MB RAM, and it could be snappier with some more RAM, but it fills my needs quite well at this point processor-wise. Definitely don't compare processor SPEEDS. The PowerPC chip gets a lot more done per clock-cycle than the Intel or AMD architecture, so the chips run at a slower rate, but are just as fast in the end. And even then, speed is not everything. Many PCs are fast - faster than macs number-wise, but what really matters (i think) is you getting the job done - ie stability and the quality of the user interface and also the machine letting you work, not be distracted by things like evil spyware etc. These are where the mac excells. The eMac is a good deal. Good luck, and if you haven't made music with a Mac before, welcome. IMHO the mac is so much more conducive to creativity than windowz.
