I have been looking around for a new microphone to recored classical vocalists(soprano) and piano using only one mic. I'm looking for a highly portable solution. Unfortunately my old recorder(Marantz PDM410 tape recorder) doesn't have phantom power and I don't want yet more stuff to run around with. What do you guys think of these options,..or any other wich may come to mind:
ALK C-1000S or Rode NT3 ..they both are battery powered and so seem to be ok.
Any thoughts? ... and just in case if anyone feels like typing or refering me further: What is/are the technicak differences between a pure condenser and electric condenser (i.e. my choices)

While I haven't actually used either of these microphones, I know that there are groups for each of those mics that swear by them. In the latest issue of Tape Op magazine, one of the interviewees said if there was one piece of gear he couldn't live without, it was the Rode NT-3.

I have used the Rode NT1, and it was a very nice mic for the price-point. I'd go for the Rode. And a nice mic pre like PreSonus Tube Pre $99. Very small and portable.
