I was looking for some opinions on using the Contour Shuttle Pro with ProTools LE. Would it be considered EXTREMELY helpful or just another one of those tools that saves a bit of time, but can be more complicated than it needs to be? I've heard it's meant for use with your left hand, thereby not really replacing your need for a mouse.

If anyone uses this, what kind of controls do you access in PTLE? Do you find it worthwhile, or would it be better just to splurge and get a dedicated DAW controller (Tascam, etc)?

thanks.

i have one that I just got about month ago. It is very handy although I must confess that I have not gotten used to using it yet and still do a lot of things with the mouse. It is totally programmable and comes with a control panel and control strip module for quick programming changes. I think it even recognizes apps and opens a set of controls based on what program you are using (comes with sets of controls for PT as well as many others or you can create your own).

For $100 compared to price of most other control surfaces... i think it is awesome deal and especially great for laptops rather than using the touch pad for many functions. However, the other control surfaces for most part offer faders or knobs and the shuttle only has one big knob so you won't get the satisfaction of actually adjusting your faders per say like Logic control or other mixer emulated controllers. But its nice for scrolling back and forth through tracks and using the buttons for transport actions and to handle whatever is your most used functions.

I think it takes a bit to get in the habit of using but eventually would prove to be a very handy device for many different apps and it won't break your bank account... unless its like mine... always on empty as I pay for my other equipment wink.gif
