Hello,
Can't make up my mind. I have a dual G5 (2gHz) and Logic Pro. My problem is that i also want to work in Pro Tools. So what are the Pro's and Con's for each setup/system? And also what's the future of the systems? I thought a little investigation could be helpfull. So what's your view on this? (especially the users of both systems, DSP (TDM and/or Powercore/Uad) and Native) I'm curious Thank you Math |

mmm....
no replies? well to shake up things a bit, here are my own findings: the cpu/power argument the quality argument the cpu argument says: the processing is done by an external "dedicated" device, so takes (some) away from the cpu of your computer, thereby freeing costly cpu power. also because this is dedicated cpu power it's "more" evolved, which build on the second argument, the quality argument: dedicated hardware is "more" professionel still something inside of me says both have it's use, but cpu power is growing in the computers nowadays, the cpu/power argument could loose the argument in the future. that will leave the quality argument the last argument and because this is more a software/coding thing, i think this could change in the future, because native software/coding still evolves fast. so do you think there are more arguments to think about using dsp or/and native. thanks for reading math |

PTLE doesn't take full advantage of dual processors. The biggest gripe I hear from PTLE users is having to bounce because they need more tracks.
At one time I thought it would be hard to fill up 24-tracks, now some of my sessions use 48+ tracks. -------------------- G-Dub
