I just bought the Tascame US-122 yesterday, and it was working fine - sort of. i figured out that i needed to add power to my USB hub, since it wasnt powered already. after i hooked up an AC adapter to it, my computer will no longer recognice any USB device, except the US-122! My oxygen 8 will no longer power up or be recognized by my computer. My USB hub powers up, and my mouse lights up, but the computer wont recognize either of them. What's worse, is that my compuiter will no longer recognize my logic xskey! i am running panther 10.3.2 on a titanium powerbook G4 550mhz with an external HD. all drivers for the devices are fully installed. any help is very much appreciated. thanks all....

phil

time to reset the motherboard…

Unfortunately I don't know how to do it on a powerbook… sad.gif

Search the knowledge base at Apple support on "reset motherboard -model of your powerbook-"

I'm not sure it can be done by the end user as it can on desktop models… unsure.gif
But it'll reinitialize all ports so should solve the problem.

Before going to the repair shop, wait for other advices, I may be a poweruser, but I'm don't know everything. rolleyes.gif

I think philryan is referring to an external USB hub, not the powerbook's ports (correct me if i'm wrong...)

Assuming this is the case - what exactly are you trying to run through the hub? If the 122 is among the list, that might be messing you up. Outboard hubs are a no no with Tascam's interfaces - you need to plug the 122 directly into your mac. You should still be able to get away with running everything else through your hub via your powerbook's other USB port (as you probably did before getting the Tascam?)... sorry for all the assumptions tongue.gif

i have the kensington usb mouse, oxygen 8 keyboard, the tasc 122 and logic xskey....

i just had the moust and xskey hooked up to the unpowered hub and it was fine....

i plugged in an AC adapter to the usb hub to give it power so that i could hook the oxygen 8 (which needs power) to the hub. it worked for a bit, but then something went totally wrong.

system will no longer recognize ANY usb device except the tasc 122. i tried plugging everything in separately to the powerbooks usb ports, and they all power up fine but they still arent recognized. tasc 122 works fine tho? i reinstalled logic, then i tried reinstalling 10.3. nothing seems to work. i reset the pram and the PMU...still nothing? i dont get it.... all the devices light up and show power, but none of them will work?

i think maybe i surged the USB chain by adding the AC adapter to give it power? but why does the tasc 122 still work? i even reinstalled that driver....hrmmm...grrrr....i dont know what to do. so frustrated...

thanks for everyones help

to reset your need to turn the powerbook off. then power it on and hold down option, apple, P and R

this is kinda hard. it takes two hands. also you have to have them pressed and hold them. you will hear the chime (bong) keep holding the keys you will hear the bong again real quite. keep holding you want to let the bong chime at least 3 time. i would suggest 5 times.

after the fifth time you can let loose of the keys. it will boot as usual.

also you can reset the nv-ram. you boot holding the option, apple, O and F keys all at one time.

you will see the mac bios screen. at the prompt you type reset-nvram and press enter. then type reset-all. the mac will reboot as usual.

happy recording,

jeremy

Well....after trial and error....and plugging in other USB devices....I figured out that, yes, my Logic xskey was erased and my Oxygen 8 keyboard was fried. Called Emagic and M-Audio. They are sending me a new xskey, and M-Audio is going to repair it under warranty. Word of advice – don't plug an AC adapter into your (cheap) USB hub unless you know what you are doing. Ok, so maybe I jumped to conclusions that the Tascam blew everything out. But hey, it was easy to assume..hehe. I bought a new MIDI controller, the Evolution MK-449C, off of eBay today. Realized I should have did a little more shopping around before I bought the Oxygen 8 anyway – so many more features on the MK-449C and only $50 more! Oxygen 8 is good for travelling musicians I suppose...but I am not one of those. My bedroom has enough room for the Evolution. So, when M-Audio sends me back my fried Oxygen 8 I'm just gonna sell it.....any buyers? Real cheap.....prolly will be a new unit....I doubt they will bother trying to fix the cheap unit!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions/help!

Silly me...

Phil

Bro, I'm a bass player.

And you know we always get told, 'Never mind, the keyboard player can do it with his left hand.'

Hey bro, I know how you feel. I have a D-Link DSB-H4 usb hub. Plugged a 120 v ( LMAO) DC plug into it unknowingly. And it created a power surge. It fried it. And unfortunately. everything plugged into it too. angry.gif
