right now this is what i'm using:

tibook 867mhz with a gig of ram running digital performer 3 in os9 (gave up on dp4 in osx)
powermac g4 400mhz with 1.2 gigs of ram running dp3 with a motu 2408mkII
emu e4xt ultra sampler
allen&heath mix wizard

in an attempt to be more productive and get more done with less (as well as be able to compose with plug in effects) i've decided to go with an all software based setup (in addition to my hardware) also partly because the powermac and 2408 and mixing desk are always at my drummers house for recording my band so i never get to work on my electronic music at home.

i was planning on buying the following:

novation remote 25 controller keyboard
logic platinum 6 (competitive upgrade)
reaktor 4
kontakt (when the osx version comes out supposedly next month)
motu 896
glyph m-project 120 gig rackmount firewire hard drive

and then eventually down the road a better apogee a/d d/a converter to hook up to 1 or 2 896's to my tibook (once i get shit like better mic pre's and such)

this is in the hopes that i can then work on my electronic stuff all the time (and have the audio output through the 896 so it sounds better than the dinky 1/8" headphone jack on my tibook) and i can sample into the tibook with the 896 analog in's, as well as tote it to and from my drummers house to track my band (and sample breakbeats on his kit and such)

my question is in logic's integration with the 896, does it work well? any snags? i'm used to digital performer, which of course integrates with motu hardware flawlessly, i imagine logic would too but i was wondering if anyone using the 2 together here could tell me straight from the horses mouth.

also how does the 896 work with osx? i would really like to not have to keep rebooting in os9 to work on music and i'm trying to work it out so i can do everything from osx.

how is logic running on osx? i've heard nothing but complaints about dp4 and osx and i myself couldn't open any of my old projects with it so i gave up on it and reinstalled os9 and just do everything from that still. but again, i'd REALLY like to just be doing everything from osx at this point.

i'm a little fuzzy on the operation of softsynths/samplers with a host program like logic, how do you go about say, sequencing an instrument you make in reaktor? operating it as a plug in? and you'd have to have both programs open to do it i imagine, so using more than one softsynth/sampler at a time is going to completely pin my cpu? i'm used to sequencing 8 tracks at a time on my emu sampler, will i now have to like, track every sequenced midi channel as soon as i sequence it to free up some cpu for more sounds? how do you do it?

also do reaktor and kontakt integrate well into logic? this is foreign to me.

also if anyone here is using logic (i should hope so) or reaktor or kontakt (especially from osx) and can hook me up with some screenshots of their setup i would be most greatfull.

i know i just asked a lot of stuff so please bear with me (and do not feel like you have to answer every point, any information will be greatly appreciated). thanks,
Jason
