Hi,
recently I got my hands on a 450 Mhz X2 G4. I installed Protools LE on it (I have an MBox) in OSX (newest upgrade) but I can't get it to work. The program starts up fine but when I try to open a session (copied in the same place it used to be on my Cube) I get this message: "The original disk allocation for this session cannot be used. One or more drives could not be found or are invalid for this session. As a result, disk allocation has been modified. Would you like to verify the new disk allocation?" When I push "Yes" I get: "26 files are on volumes unsuitable for playback. Would you like to copy them to a suitable volume?" "Yes" again and now it says: "volume-what-ever is not an audio playback volume." This goes for all my volumes, even the Cube, which I have used for audio-recording for half a year... Does anybody know what all this means and how I can get ProTools to work on this computer? Thanks in advance! MacMusic rules! Bert |

It probably means that you'll have to reinitialize/reformat your HD(s) using HDTools (compatible with OSX). Your disk had probably been formated using an OS9 version of HD Tools... You're now running PT under OSX... PT usually doesn't like that...
I've even seen it doing this while going from 9.1 to 9.2.2... Go figure... To make sure, try creating a new session, I bet it will open, play and record just fine. If it does, a decent turnaround (if you don't want to reformat), if you don't have too many sessions, would be to create new sessions and import tracks from your previous "OS9" sessions (choose "Consolidate" or copy" as an option; avoid "Refer to")... This should work. On the other hand, you've probably also made the jump from PTLE5.1 to PTLE6... This is another source of trouble... Hang on, some people here might have a dedicated solution for you (I haven't make the move to OSX myself...still too soon). Good luck. Just a couple of stupid questions it might not help but just my two cents, maybe it will ring up something helpful ?
1/ did you update the core audio to 1.2 ? 2/ Are you hard disks formatted under HFS extended (HFS+) cause it's required! 3/ Did you try to trash the preferences and repare the disk autorisations ? 4/ Do you have any error message along theprocess and what is the number of the error pesji -------------------- |

Hi Mr. T and Pesji,
thanks for your replys. I followed Mr T's advice and reformated the drive, as I should've done immediately, I guess. All problems I had with other software and font managing etc. have been solved and... Protools works! Thanks for your help! Bert |

You all are wonderful! I had the same problem, did a Google search and found this page. My disk allocation problems were solved with a simple preferences trash! I owe you guys big time. Thanks again!
