Hello All,

I am looking for suggestions on programs I can use to archive and back up sessions on to the DVD burner on our new Mac with OSX. I just returned to the world of Mac so any help is greatly appreciated.

Toast is pretty standard for burning CD's, but I don't know if it does DVD's. Might want to look in to that.

You might also want to have a look at some archiving programs, like the Retrospect Backup . It gives you the management of the backup process, capable of saving the whole system disk etc...

This is a little different. It's made to backup dynamically the sessions while at work. It works with many programs - Digital Performer, ProTools, etc. Quite expensive though.

The new iTunes 4 (free) allows you to back up to cd and now dvd. Look in you iTunes 4 help menu under dvd.


Backing up your music to a CD or DVD


You can create (or "burn") a data CD or DVD with any of the songs and spoken word content in your iTunes library. You might want to do this to make a backup copy (or archive) of all your audio files, or to transfer them to another computer.

To burn a DVD, your computer should have an internal SuperDrive and Mac OS 10.2.4 or later. Some third-party DVD burners may also work.

You can store about 650 MB of files on a CD, and about 4.7 GB on a DVD.

Any audio files in the playlist (MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV, Audible) are copied to the CD or DVD.

Toast CAN burn DVDs. A backup software helps you keep track of all your archives though.

for $99/year, it gives you :

- 15Mb email @mac.com
- 100 Mb of web space (called iDisk)
- a backup software (you can back up on cd/dvd or iDisk)

... and many other great features.

you can try for free (you will only be able to use backup with your iDisk, not with cd/dvd, this feature is only activated with a full membership. but the trial is free and you'll be able to see the backup software in action to check if it answers your needs.)

i'm not working at apple but i'm pretty happy with this soft.
