I am a complete newbie. I have just bought an Oxygen 8 Keyboard controller, and followed the set up instructions. I cannot get any sound. The instruction manual is very brief and unhelpful. I don't know how to make it work and have searched the net for help, but as I don't know what's wrong, I don't now what to ask. Can anyone give me some advice? wink.gif

You are going to have to provide more information.
Where are you trying to get sound from?
Are you using the Oxygen 8 with a mac?
What cable connections have you made with the Oxygen 8?
What software have you installed etc.
Have you connected to a computer via MIDI or USB?
What OS are you using, OS9 or OS X????????

Sorry... Yeah. Thanks for replying.
I have OSX.1.5. I'm trying the metro 6 demo in X. I have also started up in 9.2, and tried metro 5 and protools free. I'm plugged in via the USB port in my iBook.
I don't ac tually think the problem is the keyboard. When I write in notes with the mouse, I still get no sound, even though it appears to read it in the program. blink.gif

I don't know anything about Oxygen. Is it a synth or does it have any sounds at all, or is it just a midi controller?

In metro you must go to setup, and click on digital audio, click on recording options, put a check mark in the sound through box, or you won't hear a thing.

If Oxygen is a synth (has it's own sounds) be shure to make an audio connection as well as the midi/USB connection. Also, go to your sound controll panel, choose sound in, click on play through.

You will need something that will make a sound. A synth or synth module, you could also try using your Quick time instruments. To choose Quick Time instruments in Metro 5 (I'm gonna assume it's the same for Metro 6) when you open up metro all the way, you will notice on the track editor (where all the individual tracks are) you will see each track with the info..track#,and so on, (I'm not at home right now) Anyway there you will find which instrument it is trying to use (audio port, and so on). Hold the mouse down over that, a box with a bunch or stuff will open, choose edit port, choose Quick Time instruments. See if that helps any.

Thank you for your help. I have it running in 9 with protools free.
Still can't get sound in metro, but 5'm sure it's something simple.

Without wanting to state the bleedin' obvious (although that's exactly what I'm about to do laugh.gif) are you trying to play a synth or other virtual instrument within Metro? I don't know Metro at all, so I don't know if you get anything like you do in Logic or Cubase, where you get some virtual synths, drum machines etc included. Hooking them up is easy - you just select them as the output for your Midi signal.

Basically, what is it exactly that you're trying to play with the Oxygen 8? On its own, the Oxygen 8 does nothing - it has no internal sounds. It only controls other Midi instruments, whether software or hardware. So if you're inputting Midi notes, then it IS working in some respects, but now it needs another instrument to generate the actual audible tones.

I'm with you on the scant information in the Oxygen 8 "manual" (let's not get carried away here - "pamphlet" is a more accurate description), but it should be fairly straightforward. In OS X, literally plug and play. My Oxy 8 works, for instance, and I didn't do anything fancy.

Assuming you DO have a virtual instrument within Metro, maybe if you ready a Midi track and select your chosen instrument, does it give you any options? Like what Midi track to send and receive on? Have you checked the websites for Metro and M-Audio?
