Hey everyone,
This is the first step of building my new and improved home/professional studio. I'm in the middle of my audio engineering course, and I need to start thinking about my future career, so all help will be welcome. First of all let me say that I'll mainly be suing Logic 8, for my own production and for mixing other people's work. Now, I'm looking for a few pieces of hard/software to buy (already got Mac running Logic Studio), and I want to be able to work with ProTools in case any customer ask for it, so I'll have to buy it. Then, my question is: will Digi003 Rack be the best investment I'll do? It's an audio interface and ProTools in one, plus mic/instrument pres, so it looks kind of good to me. But I'm a little worried about its behavior with Logic. Anyone using this setup? Having trouble? What would you suggest if you had around 1100€ (think it's around US$1600) to spend and you needed to use ProTools and Logic? Also, I need some good plugins, EQ, Compressor, or even a DSP system... What's your opinion on this one? Maximum 700€ (+- US$1000) Thanks a lot to all you. |

In that price range, and because you have to use PTLE the 003, is your choice.
A superior choice for quality audio would be the Apogee Ensemble, the 003 is not in the same class. -------------------- G-Dub

I'd have to agree with gdoubleyou. Get the ensemble. I am generally not impressed by Pro Tools. I have an M-box that gathers dust.

Ensemble is a great product, but if you want to use Pro Tools then this interface will NOT work with it.

The real question is why even use PTLE, it's not going to improve the quality.
And if people already have PTLE.....Why would they come to your studio? PT|HD makes more sense if you want to capture PTLE clients. -------------------- G-Dub

There are a few good reasons for using PTLE or PTHD and a few not so. it isn't black and white as pointed out here.
As has been pointed out a million + times - the pre's on MBOX blabla or 001/2/3/ are pretty useless (if you want pristine) If you want to make music for your Vinyl or CD release I'd work with Logic. If you want to be quick(er) editing & automating material to picture then PT LE OR HD would be the way to go. The OMF interchange between the two platforms still sucks. In my line of work most people use PT (yes sheep) as it's the Film blabla industry standard. Quite simple really. It's easy to say yeah go with HD if you want to attract clients - it's also a lot of money for most people, or hadn't you looked at the recent costs? The real question is why even use PTLE, it's not going to improve the quality.
And if people already have PTLE.....Why would they come to your studio? PT|HD makes more sense if you want to capture PTLE clients. |

gdoubleyou,
{The real question is why even use PTLE, it's not going to improve the quality. And if people already have PTLE.....Why would they come to your studio? PT|HD makes more sense if you want to capture PTLE clients.} It aint rocket science... If it was not so funny it would be sad... |

I am probably in a similar postion.
I have a Mbox 2 (which doesn't work with Leapard) Running Logic Studio. The alternative's that have been mentioned are very expensive options. If you personally are happy with the results that you are physically able to achieve using Logic Studio, do you really think that by running PT|LE you will be able to attract more clientel? Why not look into an interface such as the Motu Traveller? I have used an 828 with great results (as good as my peers using 192 PT), the Motu records at 192 kHz speed and is cheaper than both the 003 and the Ensemble (ok the converters are not as pristine as the ensemble) however they should match if not better the 003. Freeing up monies for better quality microphones and external pre amps also potentially freeing up cash until you can justify having the PT rig. I could be talking rubbish, but surely this is a better postion to be in. This is also a very expandable option offering more simultaneous inputs than the 003 as standard and up to four units can be daisy chained. Please anyone correct me if i have any facts wrong. |

At $699 SSL's Pro Convert is cheaper than the DV tool kit.
http://www.solid-state-logic.com/music/pro...t/overview.html I do coporate video so I have need to convert to PT, and Final Cut Pro XML. I understand, Avid/ digidesign are dominent if the film video world. Ce message a été modifié par gdoubleyou - ven. 25 janv. 2008, 19:15. -------------------- G-Dub
