Hi
I recently upgraded my studio to a G5 dual 2mHz with a Motu Traveller card and Logic Pro 7.1.
I want to use the 8 channel ADAT input on the traveller as additional inputs, mainly for my keyboards, so that i can keep my analog inputs open for mic's and instuments.
2 pieces of gear have come to my attention: Berringer ADA8000 RME ADI-8 DS
What is the feeling about these 2 devices and are there alternatives that are more price efficient with regards to qualtity.
I do live in South Africa, but all mayor makes of hardware are supported here. The problem with the Berringer is that the supplier has got none in stock and new stock will only arrive in 2 month time.
Thanks.

If i where you i would go for RME products rather than Behringer. RME and Behringer are definitely not the same league.
For your setup i would recommend an 8-CH mic Pre with ADAT option: e.g. RME Octamic-D, Focusrite Octopre LE, Presonus Digimaxx LT.
RME ADI-8 is only line AD Conversion. No Preamps built In.
The Behringer Converters are low budget and the Mic-Pres really suck in my opinion.
Hope this helps.

I would also have to ask what his budget looks like... As Quark points out, and I agree, Behringer and RME are nowhere in the same leauge, the price points are extremely different as well.
Behringer ADA8000 is like $250, RME Octamic-D is about $1200, Focusrite Octopre LE is about $600. Presonus DigiMAX LT ,$800.
And here's one more, Mackie Onyx 800R is ,$1000

That would be, SMPro Audio A-08 ADAT / Lightpipe Converter ...has no pre-amps. But if you have a nice mixer w/ directs or even inserts, you could use that one. The same company makes, SMPro Audio PR-8 II, 8 ch Mic pre $199 with the ADAT option $99. ... so at a net price of $300, that is the next cheapest, non-Behringer solution.
