440 Forums _ Other Controllers, Interfaces, DSP Cards _ Why Aren't There More Firewire I/o Options?

Écrit par : swilder mar. 21 sept. 2004, 23:51

Firewire has been around long enough that firewire 2 is now out. Why why why is there only a few firewire offerings for serious sound cards. The Motu 828 mk II, the M-Audio 410 and now their 1814, Edirol has the FA-101. And now Presonus has the Firepod.

You can get 8 Mic Pres In to Adat for as little as $229 from Behringer. how much more can it possibly cost to add a Firewire port to it???

And why are there not MANY other lower cost firewire i/o options available?

certainly because firewire just started to become a standart on PC high-end motherboards.

Usually Apple start, then, a few years after, the industry follows, then the price drops...

There was many examples in the past:
- Apple started to include CD-ROM player on computers
- Apple started to include Airport (wifi)
- Apple started to include USB (despite created by intel)
etc...
All those technologies have become really cheap since the PC world massively adopted it.
