440 Forums _ Audio Melting Pot _ What To Buy

Écrit par : propan mar. 29 mars 2005, 11:28

I'm planing to buy a audio interface to my home studio.
I have a PM G5 2x1,8 with 1 GB RAM. I work with Cubase SX3.
I Plan that the audio interface will also be used outdoors conected to a PB that I plan to buy. I must have 4 pré. imput (with phanton) to connect 4 micros. My principal records is 4 naipes of voices (choirs) singers.
I'm thinking about the RME Fireface 800 or the MOTU Traveler
I'm not shure witch one to buy.
Anyone can post their opinion about this ones? Their prices are almost identical.

Without no doubt, it would buy MOTU Traveller.I have worked in my professional studio with both, and MOTU never failed.Anyway, they are the best interfaces of its level. You have chosen well. Both sound very clean, and with the shades sufficient to be professional, but MOTU is more robust.

Buy the RME Fireface 800. I got mine a couple of months ago and the AD/DA is amazing. I have done an A/B test with the MOTU and the RME blows it away.

There are tastes for everything.Technically it is not possible to be demonstrated as it sounds better. The taste is not a science that can be measured. For thirty years work like musician and producer,I have done it with all class of equipment .And still the discrepancies with other professionals are enormous. It buys anyone of the two.Your productions and creations are not going to lose nothing as much if you have RME or MOTU.Both they will help to remove the artist which you take inside. You do not record with bistoury,It records with your heart.
The productions made with RME,they are not better than the made ones with MOTU,and vice versa.
Good vibrations!

Mhmm some subliminal message… cool.gif laugh.gif

I DO agree biggrin.gif (my personal encounters with Edirol interfaces on both mac and PC have been… interesting, but not very… musical)

RME, MOTU, Metric Halo, Apogee: serious stuff. I'd favor RME for price and service. Presonus, once the drivers are sorted… (we wait, if someone with a Presonus has news?! wink.gif

Subliminal message?....You talk about a... dont buy edirol? Because that is a direct one like those of Muhammad Ali.That they ask to him Gerge Foreman.
Ali boma-ye,edirol,boma-ye.I dont buy edirol either.
Roland like other great ones, is lost much land and it does not finish connecting in the world of software and the new music, and edirol is a second mark of Roland. They will finish buying other conpanies.I wait that do not buy Mac & Music and they throw us to all. smile.gif

I LIKE antiphrases smile.gif laugh.gif

And we'll never cry out loud enough: don't buy stuff that doesn't work according to the marketing blablah. It's just a waste of time and money which can be used to DO something.

I don't say RME, MOTU, Apogee or Metric Halo are perfect companies, but at least, usually, their product behave as advertised, giving semi-pro and pro satisfying results (in the meaning: it's good). cool.gif

I understand that you must from your position be diplomatic. In fact it surprised to me your brave commentary about edirol. One must learn of its own experience. To who it likes edirol, it must continue working with him, because the own taste you cannot replace it.I work with RME,MOTU and Apogee, and I consider serious companies.
Really in the musical composition, the mark of the interface of audio is not so important.
I talk to the wind.My words...

Tks for the replies.
My problem is that I can't trie them before I buy it. Here in Portugal usually the resellers don't have this king of stuff in stock.
Another question is, do the RME have software to manage the "mixer" like the AudioDesk of the Traveler?
I think that the MOTU will be my choice, but I'm not complitely shure.

Tks in advance

I have no personal experience with Motu Traveller - but I have the
Motu 828 Mk-I model. It works great sounds good.
The sturdy metal chassis and neat layout of the innards in the box -
gives a solid and proffessional impression.

I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Motu gear to anyone.

Cheers: Dixiechicken

In fact i don't want to be diplomatic at all, we don't have too, just pondered. I'm a MOTU user, and I'm not actually satisfied with the upgrade politics of MOTU for the PCI 324 for once (rant rant rant). Now, even if I have more than personal problems with MOTU, their products work.

I'm head moderator here for about 3 years, and i'm FED UP with the problems with Edirol and M-audio. i've always been talkative about it as the team when it's necessary.

My personal experience with MOTU have been if not totally flawless, at least solved fast software wise. There has been some issues with the hardware lately i've seen, but Motu makes no fuss when the racks or card don't work as advertised (must be the asian factories not making their quality controls tight enough). I can't say so with M-Audio and Edirol. (beside there are news actors on mac, I don't have opinions on).

Dont expect some tame comments here, as long as it's backed up by personal experience, it's ok. We are a user site, not a manufacturer or editor site, that's why manufacturers and editors come here even if they don't usually talk. They are welcome but we don't expect from them the marketing blablah, we expect solutions, updates and help.

Never tried edirol........

My gear suppliers gave me good advice & I bought a MOTU 2408

But for a mobile rig the travellor looks perfect in every respect

(If I had more cash)

there's a song in there somewhere
